    About Alaskan Malamutes

As you might think, this dog originates in Alaska, where it was bred to withstand icy temperatures and to hunt and pull sleds. Often misidentified as Siberian Huskies because of the two breeds' similar coat coloring, Malamutes are actually much larger and stronger than Huskies. They have sweet, friendly personalities and do well with children and other dogs. Malamutes are devoted, affectionate pets and do well with active families.

    Did You Know?

With the help of a group of school children, the Malamute became the official state dog of Alaska in 2010.

    Origin of the Alaskan Malamute

This breed is thought to be a descendent of domesticated wolf-dogs that migrated to North America with Paleolithic Hunters. Paul Voelker used an old ivory carving to support the theory that the Malamute was probably the first dog associated with man.
