Orange County Teen with Osteosarcoma Meets His Furry Best Friend

Cristopher, 16, was diagnosed with osteosarcoma, cancer of the bones, in March of 2017. After enduring months of difficult treatment, Cristopher was introduced to the Orange County and the Inland Empire chapter of the Make-A-Wish Foundation. When he met with volunteer wish granters, he knew that he wanted to use his wish for a Shiba Inu puppy.

Cristopher and Kibo

Cristopher wished to have a furry friend that he could spend time with, take on walks, and teach new tricks to. That’s when Make-A-Wish Orange County enlisted he help of PuppySpot. From there, we worked with wish coordinators to find the perfect puppy match- an adorable Shiba Inu puppy from a breeder in Missouri.

On the day of his wish, Cristopher was surprised at home by his wish granters and his new puppy. The teen was overcome with emotion as he met his new best friend. Smiling from ear to ear, Cristopher cuddled “Kibo,” which means “Hope” in Japanese.

“When I found out that Make-A-Wish Kiddo Cristopher decided to name his new Shiba Inu puppy ‘Kibo,’ which means ‘Hope’ in Japanese, my heart exploded. That’s what it’s all about – giving hope to these kids.” – Arielle Schechtman, Senior Director of Communications, PuppySpot
