The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic has impacted many lives worldwide. It hit even harder for one New York teenager. We first heard about Isabella’s story from our partners at Make-A-Wish Metro New York. Isabella is a 16-year-old girl currently battling Hodgkin’s lymphoma, a type of cancer that affects the lymphatic system and limits the body’s ability to fight infection. She found out about her diagnosis in late February, right before COVID-19 changed the world.
Isabella took her cancer head on and began her chemotherapy treatment in March. When she found out Make-A-Wish Metro New York would be granting a wish for her, she wished to take an international trip with her family; of course, this became impossible as the number of COVID-19 cases continued to grow. However, Isabella still wanted a wish that would involve her whole family. So, her next top wish was for a puppy!
Once we heard about Isabella’s wish story and her wish for a Golden Retriever puppy, we knew we wanted to do something special! Isabella and her mom spent quite some time trying to find the right puppy through our network of screened and vetted breeders. Eventually, they decided on a gorgeous Golden Retriever male by the name of Theo! We worked closely with Theo’s breeder to have him fully donated to Isabella and her family.
Before Theo could go home to his new family, he would need to have a nose-to-tail health check by a licensed veterinarian. Once this was completed, travel arrangements were made for Theo to fly VIP style on our PuppySpot Air chartered plane. Upon Theo’s arrival to New York, he was greeted by one of our own PuppySpot Representatives Ralph Iglesias. After getting some puppy cuddles and kisses from Theo, Ralph got him all ready to make his debut in Staten Island.
Once they made it to Isabella’s home, Theo and Ralph were welcomed with many smiling faces. The person with the biggest smile was Isabella! She finally had her new best friend in her arms; it was instantly the perfect fit! We are so grateful to be a part of such a heartwarming experience. Thank you, Make-A-Wish New York for partnering with us to make a big difference in these children’s lives!
