Bernedoodle

The consultant that helped us was amazing. He guided us through the process and we also got a customized tag with our baby’s name and our number on it like he said.. Our Mio arrived a day before the ETA and was healthy and up to date on vaccinations. He’s an amazing baby and full of life and energy! We love him so much. Highly recommend puppy spot

Bernedoodle Characteristics

Bernedoodles are incredibly fun, joyful companions. They are extremely affectionate and come with goofy, lovable personalities. Bernedoodles are a mixed dog breed of the Bernese Mountain Dog and Poodle. The breed grows to a large size and their coats can vary between a wide range of colors. Bernedoodles are smart like their Poodle parents and love staying active.

Fast Facts

  • Energy Moderate
  • Size Medium
  • Trainability Responsive

Bernedoodles bring a wonderful mix of characteristics from their parents. They have the intelligence and low shedding of a Poodle and the loyal, relaxed personality of the Bernese Mountain Dog.

Their hair may be straight like their Bernese parent or curly like their Poodle parent. However, Bernedoodles with straighter coats tend to shed more. These dogs are often seen with the Bernese’s trademark tri color coat, but can be found in merle or brown as well.

Their coats are not 100% hypoallergenic like their Poodle ancestors, but they are still a viable option for people who are more sensitive to dog allergens.

Bernedoodles love to run around outdoors and even serve as shelter or rescue dogs. They have an affectionate and playful nature and are gentle with children, making them excellent family dogs. Bernedoodles like to be goofy and love getting their human’s attention.

While they love their families, Bernedoodles can be timid at first and may be skittish around strangers, due to their heightened Poodle senses. Like other breeds, you’ll want to socialize your Bernedoodle puppy early so that it will be comfortable around new people.

Bernedoodles can be a large breed, but their size depends on what size Poodle parent they had. They can range from 9 to 14 inches.

Bernedoodles can weigh between 70 and 90 pounds. The breed is generally healthy and enjoys a typical lifespan of 12 to 18 happy years.

How dog-friendly is New Mexico?

New Mexico has some room to grow when it comes to its animal-friendly laws and accommodations. On the plus side, a few New Mexico cities are super dog-friendly, and the state is a great destination for visitors traveling with their pups.

Let’s look at a few studies into New Mexico’s dog-friendly rankings.

Animal advocacy group Pawsafe ranked New Mexico as the 35th most pet-friendly state of all 50 states. They examined several factors, including animal cruelty laws, pet-friendly accommodations, and the number of dog parks and hiking trails. Unfortunately, they didn’t rank New Mexico very well for its animal welfare laws, which address things like animal abuse, neglect, or even fighting.

Another study by a safety review website, Safewise, actually ranked New Mexico last of all 50 states. The ranking has a lot to do with animal welfare laws and access to pet services.

Overall, we’re hopeful that New Mexico makes some improvements for its dogs and dog lovers!

Are cities in New Mexico pet-friendly?

Yes! The good news is that New Mexico has some great pet-friendly destinations. A study by Wallethub ranked the 100 largest cities in the country by their pet-friendliness. Here’s how New Mexico’s biggest city stacked up.

Albuquerque

Albuquerque is the biggest city in New Mexico with a little over half a million people. The city ranked very well at 14th out of 100 cities.

They placed 16th for pet budget and 7th for outdoor pet-friendliness. The city lagged behind a bit for pet health and wellness, ranking 83rd.

A separate study by the Trust for Public Land (TPL) shares great information about dog parks. They published a ranking of the 100 largest cities to see which has the most dog parks per capita. Albuquerque ranked well in the 13th spot with 2.4 dog parks per 100,000 people.

Two of the best places to bring your pup to in Albuquerque are ABQ Trolley Co. and USS Bullhead Park.
