Bichonpoo Characteristics

Bichonpoo's come from Poodle and Bichon Frise parents. You might also hear them called Bichon Poodles, Bichpoos, Poochons, and Bichon Poo as two separate words. These dogs are delightful companions who were able to inherit some of the best traits from their parents, including intelligence, affection, and high spirits. Early socialization and obedience training will ensure a well-behaved companion.

Fast Facts

  • Energy Moderate
  • Size Small
  • Trainability Responsive

Like many dogs crossbred with the Poodle, the Bichonpoo was originally bred as a companion dog for people who are allergic to animals. The Bichonpoo was also meant to be a small breed that did not suffer the same diseases as the Bichon Frise or Poodle, both of which are prone to health problems as a result of poor breeding or overbreeding. Because this is a newer breed, they can come in several varying sizes, rather than a predictable size like more established breeds.

Standing anywhere between 9-15 inches and weighing between 6 and 17 pounds, the Bichonpoo is a very portable companion. Great for apartment living, these dogs have a medium amount of energy, and if their barking habit can be quelled, they're the perfect dog to have in a small space.

Like their parents, Bichonpoos are incredibly smart and alert dogs. They’re curious, active, and fun to be around, with very distinct personalities. Knowing you’re the alpha will help them feel safe and calm. They can also be quite acrobatic and are fun to play with.

Like with any pet, be sure to take your Bichonpoo to the vet regularly, and focus especially on dental checkups. They can have crowding in their teeth and other dental issues. Taking good care of their health will keep them safe and happy for years!
