WalletHub analyzed the 100 biggest American cities to see which are the most pet-friendly. In their study, Chicago is ranked as the 64th most pet-friendly city. Chicago’s strength lies in its health and wellness for pets, for which the city ranked 13th overall. The study also found Chicago to boast the 3rd highest number of animal shelters per capita. A similar study conducted by SmartAsset ranked Chicago as the 16th most pet-friendly of all US cities.
Dog parks and activities
As the nation’s third-largest city, there are plenty of parks for you and your dog to enjoy. According to the SmartAsset study mentioned above, the city has 1.1 dog parks per 100,000 residents. There is a massive string of parks along the Lake Michigan shoreline with the Lakefront Trail, which runs for 18 miles connecting neighborhoods, beaches, and famous attractions like Navy Pier and Soldier Field.
Some of the most popular dog parks in the city are Wiggly Field, Winnemac Park, and Jackson Bark by the Museum of Science and Industry.
There are two beaches in Chicago that allow you to bring your dog; Belmont Harbor Beach and Montrose Beach. Both beaches have areas dedicated solely to dogs, which your pup can use to roam and play off-leash. Each also has its own set of other amenities for dogs.
