Labradoodle Characteristics

Labradoodles are a mixed breed of a Labrador Retriever and a Miniature or Standard Poodle. Like their parents, they’re intelligent, active, and wonderfully friendly family companions. Labradoodles are excellent snugglers with a shaggy or curly coat in a wide range of colors including brown, chocolate, red, gold, cream, black, and white. They’re medium-sized and quick to learn, which makes them a great choice for families or new dog owners.

  • Energy Moderate
  • Size Medium
  • Trainability Responsive

Since Labradoodles are a crossbreed, their traits will vary based on their unique parents and lineage. These extroverted dogs are happiest around their family and will not hesitate to show their affection. They’re lively and energetic and usually show a wonderful gentleness around children.

Labradors and Poodles are both energetic dogs, so Labradoodles are the same. If you decide to bring one into your family, you’ll want to be sure you give her a long walk or play time every day.

Labradoodles are also very intelligent – thanks in large part to their Poodle parents. They’re easily trainable and not prone to frequent barking. The best way to help them adjust to the outside world and other dogs is to begin socialization and training early. Labradoodles are smart dogs and will pick it right up.

As with most dogs – and people! – the best way to teach is to use positive reinforcement techniques. This affectionate approach will give you a joyful and well-behaved companion.

Since they’re easy to train and have such lovable personalities, Labradoodles are a great fit for first-time dog owners. Another benefit? Like their Poodle ancestors, Labradoodles have hypoallergenic coats. To keep their coat healthy and comfortable, you’ll need to take your Labadoodle in for regular trims and brush frequently.

Labradoodles grow to a medium size. They weigh anywhere from 50 to 75 pounds. The breed is generally healthy and enjoys a typical lifespan of 10 to 14 (wonderful) years.
