Yorkiepoo Characteristics

Smart, gentle, and full of love, the Yorkiepoo makes a great companion dog and family friend. While very energetic, these dogs make a fantastic pet for even the most novice pet parents.  Yorkipoos are considered highly trainable, but early obedience training and socialization are key to having a well-adjusted pup.

Like many dogs crossbred with the Poodle, the Yorkiepoo was originally bred as a companion dog for those who are allergic to animals. The Yorkiepoo was also meant to be a small breed that did not suffer the same diseases as the Yorkshire Terrier or Poodle, both of which are prone to health problems as a result of poor breeding or overbreeding.  These dogs are commonly found with white, black, or brown coats.

The perfect size to be taken anywhere, the Yorkiepoo can stand between 7-15 inches at the shoulder and weigh anywhere between 3-14 lbs. While Poodles tend to latch onto their owners, the Yorkshire Terrier has a strong independent streak. Yorkiepoos can swing either way – yours might turn out to be a constant lap accessory, or rather independent, depending on the personality of its parents.

Here’s something to watch out for: Many dogs who weigh less than ten pounds believe they are much larger than they actually are and are not afraid to pick fights with large dogs. To help ensure your Yorkipoo doesn’t find itself in trouble, introduce him to large dogs under close supervision and be prepared to break up any potential quarrels. If you plan on taking your Yorkiepoo to a dog park, keep a constant eye on your dog, as it's not unheard of for small dogs to be viewed as prey for untrained larger breeds.
