German Shorthaired Pointers were created from the mid- to late 1800s as multipurpose hunting dogs. This breed is originally a crossbreed of Spanish Pointers and Bloodhounds, and the breeding resulted in a big hound dog with a keen nose. The German Shorthaired Pointer is a fearless, friendly, smart, and highly trainable breed. They love everyone in their human family; however, they tend to choose their favorite family member. They don’t like to be left alone for too long, sometimes they even develop separation anxiety. This breed has a high energy level and makes a great playmate for active older kids. Just like for any other dogs, early training and socialization are very important. Taking your German Shorthaired Pointer to a puppy class can help him to grow up and to become a well-behaved dog. They usually get along well with other dogs; however, they might become aggressive with a member of the same sex. The German Shorthaired Pointers’ size is between 1 foot 9 inches and 2 feet 1 inch, and they weigh between 45 and 70 pounds.
