The name Boerboel (pronounced Boo-r-bull), AKA Mastiff, means farmer dog. They used to be used for protection against dangerous humans and animals in South Africa in the 1800s. This breed is known as one of the most powerful dogs in the world. When they bite, they are able to exert more than 450 pounds of pressure per square inch. However, with early socialization and proper training, they can be taught to behave really well even with young children. This breed is very intelligent and very easily trainable. They are extremely loyal and very protective of their pet family and home; also, they are amazingly calm and confident when they do their guard job. This large breed’s size varies between 24 and 30 inches and weighs 120 to 200 pounds.
