People usually get confused with this breed and the Puli. Both breeds are from Hungary, and they probably share even their ancestry; however, Pumi has originated only about 300 years ago, while the Puli has a couple of thousand years of history. Pumi is a curious, playful, and fun-loving animal companion. He has a high energy level, so he is a great choice for families who enjoy spending time outside and give him lots of daily exercise. Pumi behaves well with young children, but they need to be supervised to make sure the dog doesn’t misunderstand the rough games. They also get along well with other pets. They are excellent watchdogs, so you might expect lots of barking. The Pumi’s average weight is 18 to 33 pounds, and its size is about 15 to 19 inches.
