Beagle Characteristics
Beagles are a small-to-medium dog breed originally bred as trackers for hunting. They still love to sniff and chase while outside, but they have also become one of the most popular companion dogs. Beagles are smart but known to be a little stubborn and can take some time to train. With plenty of exercise and attention, Beagles are a well-behaved, curious, affectionate addition to the family.

Beagles originated in 16th-century England, where the upper class bred them as rabbit hunters. While many are still used to hunt small game, Beagles are popular companion dogs for families.
They are easily recognizable by their floppy ears and big brown eyes. You can find Beagles in several different colors including black, brown, gold, white, red, lemon, blue, and liver. Most Beagles have a bicolor or tricolor coat.
Beagles require plenty of daily exercise to maintain optimal health and behavior. They also don’t like to be left alone for too long, so be sure to have a plan so they don’t become anxious and destructive in such situations.
True to their nature, Beagles tend to always have their head down to the ground, sniffing for an interesting scent to follow. They will quickly wander off if they catch an alluring smell, so you’ll need to keep a watchful eye on them. But their curious nature makes them fun companions and great adventurers.
Beagles have a gentle and playful temperament but have a tendency to bark at anything and everything. They can also be difficult to train, but you’ll have a loyal and obedient companion with enough patience and positive reinforcement.
Beagles can grow up to 30 pounds in weight and 15 inches in height. The breed is usually quite healthy, enjoying an average lifespan of 10 to 15 years.

Two major studies ranked all 50 states by several factors related to pet-friendliness. They evaluated indicators like access to pet services and veterinary care, animal cruelty laws, pet-friendly accommodations, outdoor space, and dog parks.
The first study, by an animal safety group called Pawsafe, ranked Oklahoma quite well as the 16th most pet-friendly state in the country. The state scored well with Pawsafe for its animal welfare laws related to abuse, neglect, fighting, or pet care standards.
Another broad study, conducted by a consumer safety review site called Safewise, didn’t rank the state quite as well. Oklahoma came in 33rd most pet-friendly state in the country according to Safewise.
However, if we take the two studies together, Oklahoma is good to average in the pet-friendliness category.
Are cities in Oklahoma pet-friendly?
We also considered a study from Wallethub that surveyed the 100 largest cities in the country to rank them by pet-friendliness. Here’s how Oklahoma’s largest city stacked up.
Tulsa
Tulsa ranked 27th overall, scoring 15th in pet budget, 58th in pet health and wellness, and 50th in outdoor pet-friendliness.
A Trust for Public Land (TPL) study also reviewed the country’s 100 largest cities. They ranked all 100 by which have the most dog parks per capita. Tulsa ranked in 78th place, with 0.5 dog parks per 100,000 people.
