Golden Retriever

I had a great experience with puppyspot! They answered all my questions and kept me updated about all the travel information. Marbles, our golden, was a little nervous at first but within 3 days was happier than ever. I highly recommend puppyspot as they are reliable, responsible, and ensure that your dog arrives happy and healthy!

Golden Retriever Characteristics

It should come as no surprise that Golden Retrievers are one of the most popular dogs in the United States. Golden Retrievers are intelligent, friendly, affectionate, and loyal. They also make great hunters, workers, and guides for the blind. While active and energetic, they are also easy to train and make for a gentle and loving family companion.

Fast Facts

  • Energy Moderate
  • Size Large
  • Trainability Accommodating

Golden Retrievers are a popular family dog full of energy and ceaseless playfulness. Their color can vary from light golden to cream to dark golden. Bred to work with people, they enjoy pleasing their owner and helping with jobs around the house.

Golden Retrievers are active and require at least one hour of daily exercise. Without it, they may exhibit behavioral problems. True to their name, Golden Retrievers enjoy retrieving anything you want to throw. A favorite hunting companion, law enforcement personnel often use them to sniff and track things.

Golden Retrievers are heavy shedders, requiring frequent brushing to get the loose hair out of their coats.  These coats typically come in their iconic golden shade, but can be black, red, or white as well. Goldens love to carry something in their mouths like other retrievers, whether it is a ball, toy, or bone.

Golden Retriever puppies require special care early on because they grow quickly during their fourth to seventh months. This makes them prone to bone disorders, but overall, they are generally healthy. They will maintain their playful puppy personality well into their third year of age.

Golden Retrievers are a large breed and grow to weigh between 55 and 75 pounds. The typical lifespan for a Golden Retriever is 10 to 12 years. They are loyal, loving companions.

How dog-friendly is Indiana?

Indiana ranks very well across multiple studies as a great place to own a pup! Indiana residents seem to love dogs, and a wide range of pet-friendly accommodations and travel options help boost the state, too.

Animal safety review sites Pawsafe and Safewise give Indiana great marks.

Pawsafe ranked Indiana as the 12th most pet-friendly state in a study that evaluated factors like dog-friendly parks, pet-friendly accommodations, pet services, and more. The state also scored well for its animal welfare laws related to abuse, neglect, fighting, or pet care standards.

Safewise ranked Indiana 8th for pet-friendliness. Combining these two studies together puts Indiana towards the front of the pack of pet-friendly states.
