Pug
We couldn't be happier with our new pug puppy! We named him Merlin and he is learning how to potty train and teach him little commands and it's going great. Pug Characteristics
Pugs are actively bred as lap dogs and crave human companionship. They’re very sensitive, and though they're ideal for apartment living because of their size and personality, they will not appreciate being left home alone for long periods of time. These dogs can be a bit stubborn when they're being house trained, but overall, they're very affectionate and are perfect candidates for beginner pet parents.

Folklore states that the Pug's name comes from the Latin word for "fist" because his face resembles a human fist. The pug's face will bring smiles to nearly anyone who sees it, and its lovable personality will charm the rest. Their heads are large and round, as are their eyes. They have deep and distinct wrinkles on their faces. Legend has it that the Chinese, who are masters of breeding Pugs, prized these wrinkles because they resembled good luck symbols in their language.
Full-grown pugs typically weigh in between 14-18 pounds and stand around 10-14 inches tall at the shoulder. Often found with fawn, black, or white coats, their small and stout stature makes them perfect apartment companions and are best kept indoors. Pugs, like Bulldogs, don't do well in extreme climates because the shape of their nose makes it difficult for them to regulate their temperatures.
Pugs are also known to enjoy eating just a little too much. It is important to monitor their diet and provide them with ample exercise, or else they are prone to excess weight gain. Pugs have a short, double coat and are known for extreme shedding. Regular brushing and grooming will be necessary in order to keep your pug clean and happy.

Pawsafe put Arizona in the 46th place for pet-friendliness in their study. They noted the relatively low percentage of pet-friendly rentals at just 18%, which brought the overal score down.
A similar study from Safewise puts Arizona as a more pet-friendly place, ranking the state at 27th.

Tucson
In their study, SmartAsset named Tucson as the most pet-friendly city in the country! This is the second year in a row that the city has received such an honor.
Tucson has the fifth highest number of dog parks, vet offices and dog-friendly restaurants per 10,000 establishments. The city has 254 dog-friendly restaurants, which ranks in the top 20. There are also four dog-friendly shopping centers in the city.
Phoenix
In the same study, Phoenix was ranked as the 18th most pet-friendly city. Another study by WalletHub placed Phoenix 22nd.
There are 172 dog-friendly restaurants in the city and 11 dog-friendly shopping centers. Additionally, the city of Scottsdale tied for the 24th most pet-friendly city. It has 112 dog-friendly restaurants and 16 dog friendly shopping centers.
Scottsdale
WalletHub did a similar study that rated Scottsdale as the most pet-friendly city in the country. The key factor for WalletHub’s ranking is Scottdale’s fantastic pet health and wellness. They also ranked third for outdoor pet-friendliness.

In Arizona, 43% residents own a dog, which is above the national average of 40%. According to the American Kennel Club (AKC), the most popular dogs in the state are Labrador Retrievers, German Shepherds, and Golden Retrievers. In the city of Phoenix, these breeds are just as popular, but people also love Pit Bulls.
The state’s total pet ownership percentage is also far above the national average with 69% of Arizona homes owning a pet. Like we said, Arizona loves its pets!
