Looking for the perfect white dog to add to your family? Some dog breeds are only white, while other breeds can be many colors, including white. Of course, there are many considerations beyond color when you’re choosing the right dog for you, and we’ve linked below further details about each of these breeds to help.

Keep in mind that white dogs may need to be bathed more often than other dogs since their white coats will look dirty more quickly. You may notice “tear stains” around their eyes from the porphyrin in their tears. You can use an over the counter cleaner to help with this.

Small White Dogs

If you’re looking for a small white dog, you might consider:

West Highland White Terrier

Westies are always white and their double-coated fur needs consistent grooming. These smart, playful dogs weigh up to 20 pounds.

White Pomeranian

Pomeranians come in several colors, including white! They weigh up to 7 pounds and tend to be happy and curious companions.

White French Bulldog

French Bulldogs are cute in any color, but they look particularly cute in white. They get along great with kids and other pets and rarely bark. They need daily long walks and don’t do well in high heat conditions.

White Chihuahua

Chihuahuas come in both long and smooth coats and in a variety of colors, white included. They are small but mighty and while they are loyal, they can be suspicious and snippy with strangers and children.

White Toy or Miniature Poodle

Poodles are the ultimate in versatility – available in three sizes (toy, miniature, and standard) and a range of colors. But we’re partial to white. Poodles are among the smartest dogs and are less allergenic than many other breeds.

White Miniature Schnauzer

Typically, Miniature Schnauzers are either white or black. They are less allergenic than many other breeds and weigh up to 20 pounds.

White Maltese

Maltese have silky white coats and weigh under 7 pounds. They are less allergenic than many other breeds as they have silky hair instead of fur. They are affectionate and loyal.

American Eskimo

American Eskimo dogs come in standard (up to 35 pounds), miniature (up to 20 pounds), and toy (up to 10 pounds) sizes, and only in white!

Bichon Frise

The Bichon Frise, another breed that is always white, requires regular grooming to avoid matting and is less allergenic than many other breeds. These cute, round fluff balls who only weigh up to 12 pounds are active and cheerful.

Chinese Crested

These cute little dogs weigh up to 12 pounds and can be either hairless or coated (called “powderpuff”).

Coton de Tulear

Another white-only dog, the Coton de Tulear weighs up to 15 pounds and needs to be combed weekly. They are less allergenic than many breeds. These dogs are great with kids and other pets.

Havanese

Havanese can be many colors, including white. They crave human attention and are great for snuggling or as therapy dogs.

Lhasa Apso

These small dogs with long, flowy coats weigh up to 18 pounds and need regular grooming. They are confident and alert and while they are affectionate with their family, they can be wary of strangers.

Pekingese

Pekingese dogs also have long, flowy coats that require regular grooming and weigh up to 14 pounds. They came in a variety of colors. They can be stubborn and aloof but are affectionate and loyal to family.

Large White Dogs

If you’re looking for a large white dog, check out these breeds:

White German Shepherd Dog

When you think of a German Shepherd, you may not imagine a white dog, but this breed can in fact have a white coat! German Shepherds are smart and loyal watch dogs.

White Siberian Husky

Siberian Husky is another breed that you may not originally think of as white, but they can be! These dogs have thick coats, with an undercoat they shed each winter. They need frequent grooming and love to run.

White American Bulldog

The breed standard for American Bulldogs is white but they can also be mixed with other colors. These large dogs can weigh up to 100 pounds and are athletic and friendly.

White Boxer

The Boxer is another breed that can have a variety of coat colors. They weigh up to 65 pounds and are athletic and happy.

White Standard Poodle

Standard Poodles are the largest of the three sizes (the other two being toy and miniature). These dogs are smart, are less allergenic than other breeds, and are great with kids.

Great Pyrenees

The Great Pyrenees is among the largest of the white dog breeds (they weigh between 85 and 100 pounds). They shed all year so need to be brushed regularly. They are patient and loyal.

Akita

These large dogs can weigh up to 130 pounds. They can be several colors, including white. They are good watch dogs and can be wary of other dogs and strangers. They love being around their humans but need early socialization.

Portuguese Water Dog

Portuguese Water Dogs can weigh up to 60 pounds and can be black, brown, white, or a mix. As their name suggests, they love water. They are affectionate and great with children.

Samoyed

Samoyeds are always white or a white variation. They have fluffy coats that protect them from cold weather and can shed a lot.
